Vindication – iPhone to read Word and Excel files

Scaling / June 22, 2007 / Alykhan Jetha

A short while back, there was all kinds of noise about iPhone’s inability to read Word and Excel files. Sure enough – it can!

Today Apple posted a new, 25 minute iPhone tour video. In it, at about the 14:15 minute mark, you can see how you’ll be able to open a Word email attachment. The presenter also mentions Excel documents.

My prediction was that Apple would eventually release a feature to read Word and Excel documents. I didn’t think it would be this fast – but here it is.

So now the only crutch Microsoft has for FUD purposes is Exchange. So far Apple is sticking with open standards such as POP and IMAP. Let’s see what happens with that.

Until next time…
