Announcing Marketcircle’s Fitness Challenge Winner

Our Company / April 7, 2015 / Kristie

Marketcircle’s second Fitness Challenge is complete and the results are in. We extended the length of this challenge to span across 5 months and switched up the rules this time around. The focus of this challenge was to help get each team member pumped about reaching their own goals. Rather than comparing measurements, weight, or strength, we gave each contestant the responsibility to track their own progress. We began the challenge by each writing down 2 goals we wanted to accomplish each week, 2 goals we wanted to accomplish by January, and 2 goals we wanted to accomplish by the end of the challenge.

Weekly goals had to be something we could consistently monitor on a weekly basis such as our eating and exercise habits. Some weekly goals included:

  • Go to the gym 3 times a week
  • Do 30 minutes of cardio at least once a week
  • Eat healthy 6 days a week
  • Eat breakfast everyday of the week

Midpoint and final goals were something we wanted to be able to accomplish such as fitting into a specific size of pants or being able to reach a target weight. Some of these goals included:

  • Increase bicep measurement by 1/2 inch
  • Be able to do 8 pull ups
  • Go down 1 full dress size
  • Reduce body fat by 4%

1 point was awarded for each weekly goal accomplished and 10 points were awarded for each midpoint and final goal reached. Each of us was responsible for keeping track of our weekly, midpoint, and final goals over the 5 months. At the end, the person with the most points won. Over the course of the 5 months we exchanged meal plans, work out plans, and even buddied up to go to the gym together on lunch breaks. We wanted everyone participating in the challenge to feel motivated and supported by the team.

After tallying all the points, the winner of this Fitness Challenge was Mat. He definitely deserved this win after making substantial changes to his lifestyle. He even turned down birthday cake at his son’s birthday party. We’re not completely sure if it was because of his will power or because he feared what Mike would do to him if he gave in. Whatever the reason, he won and now carries the Marketcircle Trophy with pride. “I feel a lot better about myself overall. Some of my tighter clothes are now feeling a lot more comfortable so I know I’ve made a lot of improvement.” – Mat

Even though there was only one winner, we all finished the challenge feeling like we gained something positive.

“I’ve been motivated by everyone else in this challenge that’s now eating healthier and going to the gym. I did a 30 minute workout yesterday and my legs are killing today, but it feels great! I’ve also cut back on the portion size my meals.” – Nelly

“I’m going to the gym a lot more often now. A big part of that is because I have you guys kicking my butt to make sure I go! It’s great having a support system to keep me going and I feel a lot better about myself. I’m eating healthier and I have a lot more energy.” – Nas

“Overall, my strength has improved. I used to struggle to do 5 push ups and now I can do 5 with my son, Gabe, on my back. He has a lot of fun with it.” – Asim

“I’ve reached my goal of increasing my daily calorie intake to help me bulk up. I’m now up to 3200 calories a day. I’m mainly in this challenge to help motivate others.” -Mike (winner of last season’s Fitness Challenge)

“I’m going to the gym regularly now and my food intake is more balanced. There’s still room for improvement but I’m much better than when I started. My clothes are fitting more comfortably.” -Mark

“The gym used to just be part of my daily routine. Now I’m focussed on setting and reaching goals, which is way more motivating.” – Kristie
